My Visit to a Random Town in Austria
For my first solo trip back in 2012, I picked my destinations by throwing darts at a map of Europe. One of the five darts landed in Feldkirch, a tiny town near the border of Liechtenstein.
I remember Feldkirch fondly. I stayed with my first Couchsurfing host ever. In the years since, I’ve stayed with over 100 people and hosted at least a dozen backpackers myself. I remember having drinks outside and enjoying views of small mountaintops. I remember thinking that even though my hosts took their small hills for granted, the same views would have made quite an impression in Finland.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos from that trip, as I got mugged and lost my camera during the final week of my journey. Instead, the photo at the top is from Kittsee, a town I briefly visited on a day trip from Slovakia.

This site began with my own travels around the world, but randomness quickly became part of the journey. After creating a few random destination generators for fun, I found myself building dozens more—including this one for Austrian cities. You can find over 100 other randomizers on the Random Generators page.
I’ve made similar city generators for most of Austria’s neighbors as well: Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, and Switzerland.
