Want a random city in Italy? From Rome to Rimini and small hill towns too, this generator includes 925 different Italian towns.

This random Italian city generator lets you discover both world-famous destinations and quiet, less-traveled towns in the country of almost 60 million people. Whether it’s in the north by the Alps or deep in Sicily, this tool brings up cities from across the Italian peninsula—some of which I’ve visited randomly myself.

Random City in Italy

Wikipedia’s list of cities in Italy only includes places with 50,000 or more inhabitants. As that sounded a bit limiting, I used World Population Review’s broader list instead. This version includes all Italian municipalities with over 10,000 residents in 2025—making the total 925 towns.

My Visits to Random Places

For my InterRail trip in 2012, I picked my destinations by throwing five darts on a map of Europe. Since I had just three weeks, I aimed my darts at Central Europe.

I could control the east-west direction pretty well, but the vertical aim wasn’t as precise. Three darts landed in Germany and Austria, while two dropped to Italy: one in Bassano del Grappa, northwest of Venice, and the other in San Benedetto del Tronto, on Italy’s eastern coast between Ancona and Pescara.

Because my travel schedule was packed with other stops—honestly, the plan was chaotic—I didn’t have time to stay overnight in either town. I still remember seeing old buildings in Bassano del Grappa and exploring the beach in San Benedetto del Tronto.

Unfortunately, I lost all the photos from those visits. A few days later, I got mugged during the night in Turin and lost my camera with everything on it.

About a Sustainable Travel Blog Page

After traveling to random places in Europe, I once took a journey to a completely random place anywhere in the world. That experience inspired me to create these randomizers. You’ll find all kinds of generators here—from European city pickers for specific countries to coin flips. I’ve also made city generators for three of Italy’s neighbors: Austria, France, and Switzerland.
