The list is divided into several sections. Most modern and traditional names and surnames are drawn from the official statistics of Spain’s National Institute of Statistics. Why Are Spanish Names Starting with W So Rare?
Spanish names beginning with W are rare because the letter is not native to Spanish and historically appeared only in foreign words. Traditional Spanish naming drew mainly from Latin, Christian saints, and local vocabulary, none of which used W. The few examples seen today come from foreign influences, including Arabic, Germanic, or international trends.
As a result, W has remained an uncommon initial in both Spanish first names and surnames.
