Why are French male names starting with F less common today?
Names like Fabrice, Fabien, Frédéric, Franck, and François were very fashionable from the 1950s to the 1980s. Once a name becomes strongly associated with a single generation, it usually declines sharply afterward. In addition, certain endings such as –and, –in, and –ric have fallen out of style. Phonetic trends have also shifted away from stronger consonants like F and G toward softer or brighter initials such as A, L, and M.
