Reunions in the Netherlands
When I visited the Netherlands near the end of my 2-year trip around the world, my destinations were guided by encounters from the previous two years.
First, I stayed in Delft with a university student I had met at a party in Tauranga, New Zealand, a year prior. We also went to The Hague to see an exhibition of illusion artist M. C. Escher’s works. The photo at the top is also from The Hague, but from an outdoor sand art exhibition.
After that, I headed to Groningen to reunite with two Dutch travellers I had spent a month with in Indonesia. We had participated in the same Vipassana meditation retreat, and then traveled through the island of Java together.
So, unlike most tourists who have visited the Netherlands, I have never been to Amsterdam. But who knows, maybe that will change in the future?
