My Visits to Russia
I have not visited a completely random city in Russia, but I have seen some quite random ones.
I’m from Finland, and my childhood home was just 20 kilometers away from the Russian border. While I did do some trips to Vyborg in my childhood, I have only explored more of Russia as an adult.
In 2015, my friend and I traveled from Finland to North Korea by train. We first travelled to Vladivostok by train just so we could say that we’ve “done” the Trans-Siberian Railway. We stayed in Vladivostok for a night… and then headed back west for 3,300 kilometers.
After a few more days on the train, we got off in Ulan-Ude and stayed there for a while before continuing to Mongolia. The photo at the top features Ulan-Ude and its statue of Lenin’s head—the largest such statue in the world.
In 2016, I picked a random point on the globe and set out to get there. That journey turned into a passion for randomness and exploration, which led to generators like this one for Russian cities.
