My Visits to Greece
My destinations in Greece haven’t been particularly unusual—and I haven’t yet visited a randomly selected place in the country.
As a kid, our family took an autumn holiday to the island of Crete. Most of our travels abroad were home exchanges, where we swapped houses with another European family. But this trip was different—we stayed in a regular hotel.
We likely stayed in Heraklion, as I clearly remember seeing the Phaistos Disc at the archaeological museum there—and even getting a T-shirt printed with it!
Years later, I returned to Greece near the end of my 2-year trip around the world. That time, I made a short stop in Thessaloniki and stayed with a local Couchsurfing host. The weather was cold and rainy, but I did get a chance to explore the city a little. The photo at the top is from the harbor in Thessaloniki.
So far, I’ve only seen a glimpse of what Greece has to offer. I hope to return someday to explore more—especially its many islands.
