My Trips through Denmark

I haven’t visited a randomly selected city in Denmark, but I have visited the country several times. I’m from Finland and usually travel without flying, so taking a train from Stockholm to Copenhagen is one of the easiest ways for me to reach central Europe.

I’ve made quick stops in Copenhagen during three InterRail trips, including one where my friend and I asked 1,000 people about their dreams for the future. In 2024, I also attended an Effective Altruism conference in Copenhagen. The photo at the top is from that weekend.

But Copenhagen wasn’t the first Danish place I visited. In fact, the second foreign place I ever went to—and the first one I remember—was a small Danish town.

Back in 1996, when I was just four years old, my family did our first home exchange. We swapped our home in Finland with a Danish family from Hillerød, a town 30 kilometers northwest of Copenhagen. I remember practicing roller skating on our temporary “home street,” and watching football matches through the bathroom window of the apartment.

About a Sustainable Travel Blog Page

This site began with stories from my own global adventures—but it didn’t stop there. Along the way, I started building random travel tools, like this generator for Danish cities. You’ll find more than 100 randomizers on the Random Generators page. I’ve also made similar city generators for most European countries, including Denmark’s neighbors Germany and Sweden, as well as Finland and Norway nearby.
