Heads or tails? This coin toss generator simulates coin flips—and even lets you tweak the odds.

It gives you an instant answer with a single click—just like flipping a real coin, minus the physics. Whether you’re making a decision, settling a bet, or just testing your luck, this digital coin flip is quick, fair, and fun.

The history of coin flipping goes all the way back to Ancient Rome. There, it was called navia aut caput (“ship or head”). Today, “heads” refers to the side of the coin with a portrait, while “tails” simply means the opposite side.

Unlike a basic coin flip, this simulator lets you adjust the odds. For example, if you want “heads” to be more likely, you can set its probability to 60% or higher. The tallies at the bottom also count the results of previous tosses. You can reset the stats with the reset button.

How to Make Random Decisions

I have a long history of leaving things to chance. For my first train trip in Europe, I picked my destinations by throwing darts at a map. Later, I used a blindfold and a beach ball to pick a destination anywhere in the world (I ended up in Kenya).

When it comes to coin tosses, I always think about the wisdom shared by my old Spanish teacher, Miguel. To him, the actual result—heads or tails—wasn’t the point. What mattered was which result you secretly hoped for while the coin was in the air.

Besides this coin toss randomizer, I’ve also made several other random decision makers. For example, I’ve built randomizers for yes-or-no questions, lottery numbers, and even rock-paper-scissors shapes. One of my blog posts also lists ways of picking random travel destinations.

about this random generator, random destination, random city

For many years, all my random generators were based on a very simple snippet of code. But the rise of AI has allowed me to add features that were previously out of reach with my limited programming skills.

This random coin toss generator has more features than most of my other randomizers. I wanted it to stand out, so I added animation, sound effects, a results board, and even a slider for adjusting the odds.
